The latest in the Nevada County Community Forum series of talks focused on issues of interest to the western county offered attendees an introduction to Pioneer Energy and its CEO, which are offering a local alternative to PG&E.
The Union’s Elias Funez and Marianne Boll-See were on hand, essentially extending that audience to thousands more local residents through its coverage. On Feb. 23, Natalie Adona, Nevada County’s registrar of voters, will join the Forum to talk about the upcoming March 3 presidential primary election.
The Union’s coverage begins below, with a link to the full story on the discussion at TheUnion.com:
“Residents in Grass Valley and Nevada City may see a new look on their electric bill from the start of 2024, as both cities approved Pioneer Community Energy (Pioneer) as an alternative to Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E) for their residents last spring.
“Nevada County doesn’t have an agreement with Pioneer Community Energy yet, so residents in unincorporated areas are currently unaffected by this change.
“Pioneer is a community owned, not for profit utility, who provides customers with electricity and supports the grid reliability, according to Don Eckert, CEO with Pioneer Community Energy.
“The city councils of Grass Valley and Nevada City decided to join Pioneer, and now all the accounts are automatically enrolled, but individuals still have the choice to opt-out, according to Eckert.
“Maintaining stable and competitive rates are a top priority, according to Eckert who was the guest speaker at the the Nevada County Community Forum, hosted by former Sacramento Bee Publisher, and host, Cheryl Dell.”
