“The Veterans Halls in both Grass Valley and Nevada City are expected to be revitalized with $10 million in grant money from the State of California Strategic Growth Council (SGC),” Marianne Boll-See reported for The Union Wednesday.
“The board of supervisors accepted the $10 million award from the SGC during their regular board meeting yesterday.
“The award will be received into the capital facilities budget over the next five years, and will fund renovations at the Grass Valley in Nevada City Veterans Hall in order to provide resilient spaces for community programs and shelters during emergencies, according to Justin Drinkwater, Director of Nevada County Facilities.
“The Grass Valley Veterans Hall is located at 255 South Auburn Street, and the Nevada City Veterans Hall is located at 415 North Pine Street.
“’This is a daunting task. [They are] very large, old buildings,’” Supervisor Lisa Swarthout, representing District 3 said.
