VIDEO: Candidates for Nevada County supervisor share views with voters at election forums in Nevada City

Six candidates seeking two seats on the Nevada County Board of Supervisors introduced themselves to the community and fielded questions on local issues and events over the past week during a pair of forums hosted by the League of Women Voters of Nevada County.

Media coverage of the forums was provided by The Union newspaper, as well as complete video coverage by Nevada County Media.

The District 1 and District 2 seats being contested are two of five on the board of supervisors, which governs Nevada County. “District 1 includes Nevada City and the unincorporated areas of Banner Mountain, Cascade Shores, Deer Creek, and the Highway 174 corridor,” the county website states. “District 2 includes the communities of Alta Sierra, Lake of the Pines, and unincorporated areas along Highway 49.” (Click here to learn in which Nevada County district you reside).

In District 5, incumbent Hardy Bullock is running unopposed to return as the representative of Truckee and its surrounding eastern-county area for another four-year term.

Candidates vying for the District 1 seat, which include two-term incumbent Heidi Hall and two challengers, Sue McGuire and Michael Taylor, participated in the Jan. 23 forum.

In District 2, John Herrera, Jeff Pettitt and Robb Tucker, who all seek four-term incumbent Ec Scofield’s seat, fielded questions from the media and the audience attending on Jan. 24. Jason Tedder, also a candidate for the District 2 supervisor seat, chose not to participate in the forum but instead sat with the Rood Center audience, according to TheUnion.com.

The Presidential Primary Election is March 5 in California, with many local and statewide races also on the ballot, including the two challenged seats for supervisor, as well as local sales tax measures in both Grass Valley and Nevada City.

According to the Nevada County Elections Office, ballots will be mailed to voters by Feb. 5.

“Ballots can be returned as soon as they are received,” the elections office website states. “Early voting is available at the Rood Center, 950 Maidu Ave., Nevada City and at Truckee Town Hall, 10183 Truckee Airport Road starting Feb. 5. All drop boxes will be open by Feb. 6.  See the Nevada County Elections website for more information on the election, how to register to vote and other Vote Center and drop box locations.”

On Feb. 22, Nevada County Register of Voters Natalie Adona will join the Nevada County Community Forum for a talk about the March primary election on the Grass Valley campus of Sierra College. The one-hour free program — one in an ongoing monthly series of talks on local issues of interest and sponsored by the Sierra College Foundation — is scheduled to start at 10:30 a.m.
