With Sunday’s first Victorian Christmas celebration of 2022 in Nevada City, western Nevada County will fully be in the thick of the holiday season.
Grass Valley’s Cornish Christmas drew a huge crowd Friday for its first event of the year and, if the weather cooperates, Nevada City should expect no different for the its annual Victorian Christmas celebration (Sunday’s forecast is calling for 30% afternoon rain and a high of 51 degrees).
Victorian Christmas takes visitors back in time to celebrate the holiday season, with the smell of roasting chestnuts in the air and bright lights lining the era’s architecture, as well as its gaslamps and revelers donning Victorian attire to set the stage. Local merchants and street vendors offer unique gifts and musicians perform live on the street to help bring in the holiday cheer, while visitors shake off the cold and fill downtown restaurants.

This year’s Victorian Christmas celebration will be offered through five events heading toward Christmas, on Sundays (1:30-6 p.m., Dec. 4, Dec. 11 and Dec. 18) and Wednesdays (5-9 p.m., Dec. 7, Dec. 14).
